We are back with more sim racing news. By now many of you might regularly be watching The Race All Star Series and Formula E – Race at Home on Saturdays. If you are looking for even more motorsport action, we recommend the Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix Series.
Both drivers for ROKiT Williams Racing — George Russell and Nicholas Latifi — are joining in the competition each week. With an all professional circuit, there is no shortage of excitement in each race. Drivers navigate virtual versions of professional tracks from around the world with the added challenge of using sim racing kits. The fan experience is quite similar to a traditional Formula 1 race, featuring tremendous graphics and live announcers. Once you get into it we guarantee you will forget you’re watching a virtual race.
This past weekend George Russell took home the top points on race day, following a suspenseful ending. George battled it out with Charles Leclarc from Team Ferrari throughout the race on the virtual Spanish Grand Prix circuit. Nearing the end, Russell was penalized for cutting corners on the track — a three second penalty. Chances of victory were slim until Leclarc was given the same penalty on his final lap, leaving space for George to take the top spot on the podium. He seemed both ecstatic and relieved when he finally learned of his victory — his first in Formula 1 competition. See the video below.
The Formula 1 Virtual Grand Prix Series airs on Sundays at 10am PDT, taking the place of events from the former Formula 1 schedule. The next two races go live on May 24 – Monaco, and June 7 – Baku. Fans in the US can watch the broadcast on a number of platforms: YouTube, Facebook Live, twitch, and Twitter Live. We hope to see another victory for team ROKiT Williams in the weeks to come.
