W Series Esports League

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

The W Series is finally back in action this week. The first of ten scheduled sim races kicks off Thursday on the virtual Italian track.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Drivers

There are 21 drivers taking part in the W Series Esports League. The virtual competition will be all-female like the traditional W Series. The overall winner from last year, Jamie Chadwick, will be one of the women vying for the virtual crown. The rest of the field consists of the 17 others who qualified to race in 2020 prior to the shutdown, as well as three drivers who were part of the series in 2019. The full list of competitors is available on the W Series website.

The Kits

The W Series has taken a more egalitarian approach to racing kits than other virtual leagues. In an effort to make the competition much more about speed and skill than disparities in technology, each of the women competing will be using the same Logitech equipment provided by the W Series. Catherine Bond Muir, CEO of the W Series, spoke to a writer from The Race about the importance of identical setups for ensuring a fair racing environment. This matches how the series promotes equitable cars on the racetrack.

The Schedule

The competition will run every Thursday for the next 10 weeks, beginning at 11am Pacific.

Where to Watch

Each race will be available to stream live on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Live. Don’t worry if you can’t watch in real time – the races will be posted on the W Series YouTube Channel after the live cast.

Returning to the Track

The W Series will not return to on-track racing this season. However, Bond Muir confirmed that the series will be back in a big way in 2021. Next year’s schedule will include two joint race weekends with Formula 1: Austin, Texas and Mexico City

Even though this season of the W Series will be taking place on a virtual circuit, count on highly competitive races showcasing some of the best female talent from around the world. We can’t wait to see who emerges as the front runner on Thursday. Let us know what you think of the first race of the W Series Esports League by tagging @rokit on Twitter.
