Mardi Gras 2020: New Orleans-Inspired Cocktails

Happy Fat Tuesday!

Today is Mardi Gras, which means it’s the last hurrah before Easter for many of you. For others, today is just another excuse to have a good time. Either way, we want to help you have a little extra fun on this day of celebration with some Mardi Gras cocktails.

Here are three of our favorite New Orleans-inspired drink recipes featuring our sister brand Bogart Spirits to add some Southern spirit to your day.

Hurricane Cocktail

Serves 1

2 ounces – Bogart’s Rum
2 ounces – your favorite dark rum
2 ounces – passion fruit juice
1 ounce – orange juice (or substitute 3 ounces – passion-orange-guava juice)
½ ounce – grenadine
½ ounce – simple syrup
Juice of ½ medium lime
1 – slice of orange
1 – maraschino cherry
1 – Hurricane glass or equivalent

Mix all ingredients together in a cocktail shaker. Get your shake on.

Strain the mix into an ice-filled Hurricane glass or equivalent.

Add the orange slice and cherry as garnishes.

Serves 1

1 ½ ounces – Bogart’s Whiskey
¼ ounce – Herbsaint Liqueur or Absinthe
½ ounce – simple syrup or 1 – sugar cube
½ teaspoon – Peychaud’s Bitters
1 – Lemon peel
2 – Old-Fashioned glasses

Fill one Old-Fashioned glass with ice.

In the other Old-Fashioned glass, add ½ teaspoon of Peychaud’s Bitters and the sugar cube (crushed) or simple syrup.

Add in the 1 ½ ounces of Bogart’s Whiskey.

Dump out the ice from the first glass and add in the Herbsaint Liqueur or Absinthe. Swirl around to coat the glass and then pour out the rest.

Strain the ingredients from the second glass into the coated glass.

Add the lemon peel to garnish.

French 75

Serves 1

1 ½ ounces – Bogart’s Gin
1 ½ tablespoons – fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon – simple syrup
2-3 ounces – Champagne
1 – strip of lemon peel
1 – Champagne flute

Slice off a strip of lemon peel for the garnish.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.

Add in 1 ½ ounces of gin, 1 tablespoon of simple syrup, and 1 ½ tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.

Shake it like a polaroid picture and strain into a champagne flute.

Add in enough champagne to fill up to the near brim.

Drop in the lemon peel garnish. We recommend twisting it first to be extra fancy.
